Open ReceiptSplit and tap the large “Scan Receipt” button on the home screen. Point your camera at the receipt and hold steady. The app will automatically detect and capture the receipt.

Tips for best results:

• Ensure good lighting (avoid shadows)
• Hold the phone steady and parallel to the receipt
• Include all items and the total in the frame
• Smooth out wrinkles if possible

Yes! If scanning isn’t working or you prefer manual entry, tap the ”+” button and select “Manual Entry.” You can add items one by one, set the total, and add participants just like a scanned receipt.

No account is required. ReceiptSplit works without any sign-up or login. Your data stays private and is never shared with third parties.

After scanning a receipt:

• Tap “Add Participants” to add people to split with
• Select a person at the top of the screen
• Tap items to assign them to that person
• Items can be shared by multiple people (just tap again)

The app automatically calculates each person’s share including their portion of tax and tip.

The “Split Evenly” button divides the total equally among all participants. Use this when everyone shared everything or when you don’t want to track individual items.

After assigning items, tap “Share” and select a participant. You can send their share via:

• Text/iMessage - Pre-filled message with amount
• Email - Detailed breakdown of items
• Venmo/PayPal - Message includes a payment link with amount
• Share Sheet - Any app you prefer

Use the Balances tab in the bottom navigation. Here you can see:

• Who owes you money and how much
• Your debts to others
• Settlement suggestions to simplify debts

Mark payments as received by tapping on a person and recording the payment.

Every phrase includes the app name, so Siri knows which app you mean. Say it to Siri, or type it into Spotlight:

• “What do I owe in ReceiptSplit” or “Who owes me in ReceiptSplit” — hear your balance without opening the app
• “Scan a receipt with ReceiptSplit” — opens the camera, ready to scan
• “Show my balances in ReceiptSplit” — opens Balances
• “Show my Target receipt in ReceiptSplit” — opens the latest receipt from a store you have receipts from
• “What does Anna owe me in ReceiptSplit” — needs People & Amounts in Siri & Spotlight turned on (see below)

The Siri & Shortcuts section in the app’s Settings shows a phrase to try and links to all of ReceiptSplit’s actions in the Shortcuts app. Siri understands the phrases in English, Spanish, German, French, Italian and Portuguese.

On an iPhone with an Action Button, open the iOS Settings app, tap Action Button, swipe to Shortcut, and choose Scan Receipt from ReceiptSplit. One press then opens the camera, ready to scan.

Scans started this way count toward your free AI scans like any other.

Swipe down on the Home Screen and type the store name. Matching receipts appear with their date and category — tap one to open it in ReceiptSplit. No setup needed.

Totals and the names of people you split with appear in Spotlight only if you turn on People & Amounts in Siri & Spotlight. Balances are never added to search.

Names stay out of Siri by default. To ask about one person, open Settings in ReceiptSplit and turn on People & Amounts in Siri & Spotlight in the Siri & Shortcuts section. The names of the people you split with then appear in Shortcuts, and receipt totals become searchable in Spotlight. Turn it off at any time and both are removed.

Make sure the phrase includes “ReceiptSplit” — without the app name, Siri can’t tell which app you mean. If it still doesn’t work, Siri may be switched off for the app: in ReceiptSplit’s Settings, tap the Shortcuts link in the Siri & Shortcuts section, then tap ⓘ and turn Siri on. You can always type the phrase into Spotlight instead.

If the AI misread some items, you can easily edit them:

• Tap any item to edit its name or price
• Swipe left on an item to delete it
• Tap ”+ Add Item” to add missing items

Tips for better scans: Use good lighting, avoid reflections, and try flattening crumpled receipts.

ReceiptSplit’s AI-powered receipt scanning requires an internet connection. When offline, you’ll see a “Limited features available” message.

While offline, you can still:

• View previously scanned receipts
• Edit existing splits
• Use manual entry to add items

For best results with receipt scanning, connect to WiFi or mobile data.

Swipe left on any receipt in your history and tap “Delete.” This removes the receipt and all associated splits from your device.

Your data is stored privately within the app. ReceiptSplit does not have servers that store your receipts or personal information.

When you scan a receipt, the image is processed temporarily to extract text, then discarded. Only the extracted text and your split calculations are saved locally.

You can share individual receipt summaries and PDF exports via the Share button. Each receipt can be exported as a detailed PDF with itemization, participant breakdown, and payment status.

Go to Settings > Delete All Data. This permanently removes all receipts, participants, and payment history from your device. This action cannot be undone.

Alternatively, deleting the app removes all data.

• Open the Settings app on your iPhone
• Tap your name at the top
• Tap Subscriptions
• Find ReceiptSplit and tap Cancel

You’ll continue to have Pro access until the end of your billing period.
